Upcoming Retreats

Feb 13 – 19, 2019 with Lana Maree

Lana Maree is a seasoned crone yoga teacher, with over 45 years of experience. She practices yoga because it keeps her human – teaching for fun, beauty and passion. If you want to move, breathe, live, love, dance, wail, release, change – yoga can help!

Her retreat will be around somatically based yoga teachings that dive into the fluid system of our bodies to encourage and explore the “emotional” ocean of ourselves from the inside out. Sound, chanting, meditation, breath – incorporated as a means to delve into our authentic yearnings as interconnected human beings. While also empathizing on core stability to maintain a safe, aligned skeletal structure.

Feb 26 – Mar 4, 2019 with Dr. Rami Nijjar

This retreat is perfect for those who have just come through a period of prolonged stress and are looking to reflect, recuperate, and rejuvenate (and of course have a lot of fun!).  The retreat is led by Dr. Rami Nijjar, who will be integrating mindfulness, reflective writing, and cognitive behavioural stress reduction techniques. Participants will also have two yoga classes a day, aimed at reducing anxiety and letting go of stress.  They will also have ample free time to enjoy all that Ilhabela has to offer.

Rami Nijjar is a clinical psychologist and sex therapist who specializes in stress reduction and self compassion. Alongside her clinical practice she participates in ongoing yoga and meditation training in order to better understand how the body and mind experience stress and how we can best work with our suffering. Support Staff

Teresa Prado

Teresa is a Brazilian living in Vancouver. She has been a yoga instructor for the past four years after completing the Rizze Yoga Immersion Training in Hatha Yoga with influences of expressive movement and breath.

Teresa’s classes incorporate dynamic movements for active bodies while also supporting a slow, steady rhythm for students of all levels. She believes in the fluidity of movement and the importance of release through sound and breath to create more open spaces in our bodies. Thus, bringing a sense of unity between mind, body and soul.

Nana Saatchi

Nana is a therapeutic body worker based in Vancouver with a focus in deep tissue release therapies and general relaxation massage. She began practicing Hatha yoga in 2009 and has since incorporated movement and energy work into her personal practice.

Her intention is set around decolonizing the body, mind and spirit particularly for people of colour, and creating space for empowerment of self and community.

Ilhabela is the largest island off the coast of Brazil, located halfway between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Here you will be able to enjoy the beautiful tropical beaches, waterfalls and a thriving downtown with shops, restaurants and bars.

The house was built in 2003 by Denise and Gene, Teresa’s parents, and is nestled in the quiet Feiticeira neighbourhood on the north side of the island. The design offers open community spaces for shared meals and for classes while also having plenty of nooks for activities like reading or meditating. There are stairs leading down to the water outside of the house, where a small bay keeps the swimming fairly calm throughout the summer. We have gear for snorkelling in the bay where you could catch sight of our resident turtle!

What kind of yoga is it?

The exact type of yoga will depend on the teacher we have hired for your particular retreat (See Retreats Section above for that information).

Are there Mosquitos?

Yes, there are mosquitos everywhere on the island! Even paradise isn’t perfect. It is a must to bring bug repellent. We carry one made locally that works best if you also use oil on your body.
